Dan Montgomery
cast iron songs & torch ballads

"If Charles Bukowski could have carried a tune, he might have sounded like Dan Montgomery." - Andria Lisle, Memphis Flyer

Philadelphia born, South Jersey raised & Memphis transplant of the past six years, Dan Montgomery's ability to spot people you'd never notice and turn them into characters you can't resist is uncanny. Montgomery's latest release Rosetta, please(a love story) on the Makeshift Music label is a nine song story of two people. One fresh out of jail. One walking the streets, working the streets. What tears them apart? What keeps them together?  Musically, the golden age of American Studios was the template aspired to; big bold rocking songs, soul ballads with electric sitars, heart wrenching love songs.  This wide sonic pallet is unified by the storyline that runs through the entire record. The album includes the endearing "Favorite Color" which last year went to Number 2 on Texas Radio 94.7 in Corpus Christi, TX.

Dan's new ensemble The Dan Montgomery Three consists of Dan on guitar, harp &vocals, Robert Mache(ex Steve Wynn, Giant Sand, Mumps, Continental Drifters) on electric guitar & mandolin plus Andrew Simons on upright bass & vocals. Preparing for a new record, the DM3 has been performing mostly new songs. The results are a batch of quietly intense character studies about jazz bassists, birds, the 1964 World's Fair, social anxiety, ghosts and more . According to Montgomery;  "It's the first time in almost two years since the recording, release and extensive touring for the (highly acclaimed) Rosetta, please(a love story) that I could really just sit still and write". So far the songs have been easily as well received as the old favorites.

Dan's CD Rosetta, please(a love story)was voted one of the "Best CDs of 2006" in the Philadelphia Inquirer and No Depression called it "An Astonishingly Good Album"!
